Had a lovely week at home. Felt a bit absurd to go on holiday so early, but cherished every moment. Spent loads of time with Timor and really felt like a proper holiday. Went to Delft (and, um, Ikea, yes I know I'm swedish...). On Saturday we rented bikes and went to Wassenaar - really beautiful ride and great beach (really recommend to all den haagers - not crowded at all).
But now I'm off again. Was very thankful for the greatness of Schiphol when I learnt that my neighbours on the flight came from Barcelona - via AMS to Nairobi. Poor souls.
Feel motivated to go back and get JMT Bukavu going seriously. Olivia has reported that we have several missions planned, but also that the rains have started, so we'll see how the muddy roads will treat us.
The idea is that we shall observe the deployment of congolese police in three different areas in South Kivu (according to the government's security strategy). The deployment has been delayed for different reasons (including really slow progress on the infrastructure development as well as security issues), and there's no guarantee that there'll be police in place before my contract is up in December. In the meantime we will monitor the construction of police housing that has been started in a couple of the sites and we can also work with the police already in the area as well as with the local administration and civil society. Hopefully we'll manage to travel regulary to all three areas, but who knows. We don't have our own car, so are dependant on tagging on to other missions going to the same places.
Just another 3 hours to boarding:)

It was fantastic getting to see you again so quickly! Thank you for a goooorgeous meal! :-)
